A big part of learning saxophone is getting ready for auditions. Whether in high school or college. And while knowing all your scales and pieces inside and out is paramount, I believe the most important thing to succeeding in an audition is your headspace. Having a positive outlook about music and what the saxophone means to you is what really helps you win auditions.

We'll work thoroughly on preparing your technique and musicality for the audition. But we'll also develop the proper headspace for that moment when you actually have to perform.

Traditional schools are a great place to make colleagues and build skills. But one area that seems to be a bit lacking is what do musicians do after they graduate? How do they build careers? It's one of the hurdles that turns many people away from music or makes them quit shortly after school.

It's not easy, but I'm letting you know there is a path to creating a career in music. And it's actually a great time to be a musician.

Building a career goes far beyond knowing all the tunes and all the scales. It takes business skills. Social skills. Determination. But it's unbelievably rewarding.

I've never been a big believer in the prodigy's success story. While it's nice for the prodigious individual, the rest of the world can still love music and have a wonderful life in it. Modern Sax is about building the most successful life in music for the individual, no matter their skill level, age, or location. Because building a successful music career is really all about the person building it. If they want it bad enough, it gets built.
